Very Mega!

Client: Yards Brewing Company
Agency: Nucleus Digital
Creative Director: Jason Brantly, Corey Fox

This is pixel art packaging, featuring 8-bit illustrations and typography, that Jude created for Yards Brewing Company’s “Very Mega” Imperial IPA.

Project Goals

Yards needed a pixel art design that fit in with their other beers that utilize an “8-bit” aesthetic but taken up a notch.

Project Realization

The pixel art illustration and 8-bit typography was used on cans, cases, and all other marketing materials for the “Super Deluxe Mega Awesome Beer”. In addition, Yards created an online video game using Jude’s art that fans could play to win a free beer at the taproom.

Creative Process

Jude drew inspiration from Kaiju monster movies, professional wrestling, and 8-bit video games. The resulting “Very Mega” character is what would happen if Ultraman raided “Macho Man” Randy Savage’s wardrobe and slept in a volcano that spews rainbows.

Testimonial

"We brought Jude in to work on the Very Mega beer for Yards because I knew he understood the assignment: creating kick ass pixel art and typography that would appeal to our customer base."
