This is a pixel art illustration that Jude created for Entertainment Weekly magazine, featuring portraits of Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, and the rest of the Scott Pilgrim vs The World cast. He also designed the 8-bit typography for the headline.
Project Goals
The whole premise of the Scott Pilgrim universe is that it’s governed by the rules of a video game, so Entertainment Weekly wanted a pixel art illustration that both captured the actors’ likenesses and visually conveyed video games.
Project Realization
The 8-bit illustration was used across the opening spread of the article in Entertainment Weekly magazine, along with the pixel typography that Jude created for the headline. It was also used alongside the online version.
