This is a series of pixel art illustrations and animations that Jude created for an article celebrating 30 years since Bo Jackson conquered the world of professional sports.
Project Goals
Bo Jackson conquered the world of professional sports in 1989. ESPN needed retro, pixel art illustrations that captured the visual style of that year, referencing 8-bit sports video games.
Project Realization
The animations were used in a featured article on the ESPN website highlighting 12 months of Bo Jackson’s achievements.
Creative Process
Jude created pixel art portraits and illustrations of Bo Jackson for each of the key timeline events, and then animated those 8-bit scenes, being mindful of the file size of the animated gifs so they would load quickly.
